Who’s there

If you’re lucky enough, you can catch the flitting goldfinch delicately balancing on a flower stalk for more than a fleeting moment. Sometimes they collect in groups, males and females communing on a catmint plant.

But the other day, I noticed some disturbance in a cottage flower that required a pair of binoculars. Sure enough, lighting within the flowers balancing on a stalk, was a female goldfinch. Picking at this and that, finding pollen within the stamens, she gave me enough time to shoot away.

From a distance, she is barely discernible.

But close in… all is revealed.

Take another look

She fits in perfectly,

So perfect.

Remember, keep your eyes open. Notice differences in the regular. Secrets are everywhere!
